The TOCFL Computerized Adaptive Test (Listening and Reading) employs Rasch model of item response theory. The test taker does not need to choose the test level or band when registering for the test. The computer selects the test items based on the test taker’s response to the previous items. Compared with other test formats, CAT takes less test items to precisely evaluate the test takers’ competence, as the item selection is adapted by the test takers’ responses.
